Back in 2010, Tokyo, Japan had the biggest population of any city on the planet with a population of over 36 Million people, which was nearly 15 million more than Delhi, India, which had the second highest population. So, if you were to fast forward to the year 2100, you’d expect Tokyo to be even further ahead, right? Wrong. In fact, Tokyo is predicted to not even make it into the top 20 cities in the world by this point. What’s even more surprising is that only 6 of the top 20 cities with the highest population in 2010 are predicted to still be in the top 20 by 2100.
In this piece, we highlight the top 20 cities in the world with the highest population back in 2010 and track their population increase or decrease over the years. If they drop out of the top 20, we bring in the city that replaces it and track that cities population. Can you guess which city will have the highest population by 2100? Read on to find out!
